Escaped Adult Summer Camp

We left the 31st George Town Cruising Regatta a few days early, following the boats out of Elizabeth Harbour that were participating in the around Stocking Island Race.

Cruisers seem polarized by the regatta.  Some find it too organized, too cliquey, too many cruise ship like activities, too many boats anchored in one place, and too noisy.  Other cruisers live for the George Town Regatta.  Some boats leave the U.S. as soon as hurricane season is over and go straight to George Town where they remain until chased out by hurricane season.

Serenity is somewhere in the middle.  We enjoyed all the activity and socialization, but we also enjoy our serenity.  Therefore, we returned to Emerald Bay Marina to provision, wash clothes, and prepare for a deep water crossing to Cat Island.  The Explorer Chart that covers Cat Island and Eleuthera, our next stop, is labeled “The Far Bahamas.”

With a cold front rapidly approaching, we hurried our preparations and said goodbye to friends.

We encountered very light winds and almost flat seas on our crossing.  As we approached Cat Island, we encountered some light squall activity associated with an approaching front.

There were some high winds and seas forecasted to be associated with the high filling in after the front, so our plan was to seek shelter in Hawk’s Nest Marina.
This must be the right place

We will give it a few days to calm down, and the wind to clock more to the east, then we will venture on.  But, in the mean time it isn’t all bad.
